CircBio’s Researcher at CABR Presented Research Findings from Bio4Africa Project
In January 2025, Dr Aleksandra Augustyniak, a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Circular Bioeconomy Research Group (CircBio) at the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research (CABR), presented findings from her research on the BIO4Africa project during the BIO4Africa final conference in Montpellier, France.
BIO4Africa project tested green biorefinery at pilot sites in Uganda and Ghana with project focus being on the production of high-quality protein.
Dr. Augustyniak’s role in the project was to fully assess the potential of green biorefinery products and the value of side streams and to investigate whey juice.
Research results (which were obtained using state-of-the-art biochemical, analytical and cell culture assays on dermal cells) revealed that biorefinery whey offers promising potential as a cosmetic/cosmeceutical/pharmaceutical ingredient.
The CABR Technology Gateway is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021-27.
