CABR PhD Researchers Participated in European Doctoral Day at MTU
CABR PhD researchers Joanne Hanifin, Megan O’Brien and Lord Gyimah participated in Munster Technological University’s European Doctoral Day and took part in the MTU Postgraduate Research Writing Competition, where Lord Gyimah was a 2nd place winner and Megan O’Brien and Joanne Hanifin were joint 4th place winners, alongside Jessica Neville and Shauna Hurley from MTU Department of Biological Sciences, Bishopstown Campus.
All three CABR researchers are part of the MTU Department of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kerry Campus.
Lord Gyimah’s research is part of the BIO4Grass Project, exploring how a seaweed biostimulant and microbial panel are helping Irish grassland farming reduce greenhouse gas emissions without sacrificing productivity. Lord’s PhD is funded through a Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) scholarship and supervised by Dr Patrick Quille, Dr Bernard Boateng and Dr Eilish Broderick.
Joanne Hanifin is a TU RISE PhD Scholar at the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research at Munster Technological University Kerry Campus. Her project focuses on marine and plant bio-extracts for bovine udder health in mastitis. Joanne’s research is supervised by Dr Joanna Tierney, Dr Bridget Breen, Dr Ashley Sullivan and Dr Venkata Vamsi B Yallapragada.
Megan O’Brien’s PhD research focuses on developing a pilot-scale green biorefinery unit that’s operating in MTU for the conversion of Irish green biomass into high-value bio-based products. Megan’s research is funded by BiOrbic and Research Ireland and supervised by Dr Joanna Tierney, Dr James Gaffey, Dr Joanna Przyborska and Dr Helena McMahon.
Thank you to MTU Research Office for organising this event and congratulations to all MTU postgraduate researchers for participating!
