Analytical Capabilities

the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research’s core research platform is very much aligned with our Technology Gateway activities. Bioresources are at the core of our research activities and we have a broad funding base from Science Foundation Ireland, the Irish Research Council, Horizon 2020, BioBased Industries and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Bioresources encompasses a wide range of opportunities; the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research contributes to the wider bioeconomy through practical approaches to add value to bioresources, as well as contributing to policy through various national and European frameworks.

Bioresources describe a diversity of under-explored and under-exploited materials derived from waste streams, marine, plant, animal, mammalian and microbial sources. Bioactive compounds of current interest include, but are not limited to, those displaying anti-oxidant, anti-microbial and immuno-modulatory activity.

Biological Library, Repository and Database: the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research has developed and continues to expand an extensive biological repository of extracts derived from wide ranging sources and processes.

the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research researchers based in its host institutes, IT Tralee and Limerick IT, have a strong track record with gaining European funding.
