CABR Research Publications Spotlight – October 2026

CABR researchers have been actively contributing to the research community through scientific publications across biotechnology, health, sustainability and other key CABR research areas. We also collaborate with a range of internal and external research groups.

Below is a selection of recent publications from our researchers and collaborators:

(1) Microaerobic pretreatment and engineered Schizochytrium converts food waste into single-cell protein: A sustainable solution to global protein crisis

This study presents a bioconversion process that turns food waste into high-value single-cell protein (SCP). Microaeration combined with thermal pretreatment boosts organic acid production, which is then converted by Schizochytrium limacinum SR21 into SCP.

The system achieved 46.72 kg of SCP per ton of dry food waste (18.18% conversion). Life cycle assessment indicates a substantially lower environmental footprint than conventional protein sources, supporting scalability and sustainability.
