Pint of Science Tralee 2026, Supported by CABR, CircBio and IMaR
Centre for Applied Bioscience Research (CABR), Circular Bioeconomy (CircBio) Research Group and Intelligent Mechatronics & RFID (IMaR) Research Centre supported the Pint of Science festival in Tralee, which brought together scientists and the public for an evening of engaging talks in a relaxed setting at Quanes Windmill Bar, Blennerville.
Pint of Science is an annual festival that takes place over three evenings in May simultaneously around the globe, where academics explain their research to the public in an informal setting.
This year’s Tralee event, held on 20 May 2026, explored the theme ‘How Science, Research and Innovation are Shaping Our Society’, featuring three talks from researchers and practitioners working across health, digital technology, and social science.
- Lucy Wolfe (Post-Graduate Researcher) shared findings from her research into how Irish mothers across two generations experience and manage their children’s sleep.
- Laura Clifford (Chief Medical Scientist, Bon Secours Hospital Tralee) presented on the work of a hospital histology lab, tracing the journey from tissue sample to life-changing diagnosis.
- Dr Katie Crowley (Associate Professor, University of Limerick) presented on digital health accessibility, exploring how technology-enabled care can be designed inclusively to support older adults.
CABR was a local sponsor of the event, alongside IMaR Research Centre.
The local Pint of Science Ireland team included Eve Savage (Project Manager, IKC3 project, CircBio at CABR, MTU), Dr Daniel Riordan (Director for Industrial Engagement, IMaR Research Centre & Head of Department – Technology, Engineering & Mathematics, MTU) and Damian Gornik (Communications Officer, CABR).
Thank you to the Pint of Science Ireland national team, including Co-Directors Dr Ronan Lordan and Dr Trish O’Connell, Fundraising Manager Gabriela Marquette, and Outreach and Communications Manager Kiruba Nedounsejian, as well as all volunteers who made the festival possible.
Thank you to MTU Marketing Department, MTU PRME, and Pint of Science Ireland for providing merchandise to our guest speakers!
