Science+Art Project Exhibition Opening at MTU Kerry

CABR hosted the opening of the Science+Art Project exhibition on Wednesday, 6 May 2026 at An Cuan STEM Building, MTU Kerry.

The project brought together art and science, and the opening event featured original artworks created by 18 artists from Tralee Art Group, inspired by cell biology research at the Centre for Applied Bioscience Research (CABR).

The event featured welcome speeches from Sarah Morey (Arts Officer, MTU Arts Office), Damian Gornik (Communications Officer, CABR & Science+Art Project Manager), Caitriona Foley (Chairperson, Tralee Art Group), Dr Tim Yeomans (Centre Manager, CABR), and Dr Angela Wright (Head of Teaching and Learning, AnSEO, MTU Arts Office).

Congratulations to Damian Gornik (CABR) for leading the project, and thank you to Tralee Art Group, all participating artists and Caitriona Foley (Chairperson, Tralee Art Group), MTU Arts Office, especially Sarah Morey (Arts Officer, MTU Arts Office) for their support for the project, CABR researchers who contributed imagery (Dr Anuma Singh, Dr Ashley Sullivan, Dr Wisdom Shadrach, Dr Tielidy de Lima, and Mariana Juca da Silveira e Silva), MTU Kerry Library for their help in organising the event, our event speakers, and everyone who attended the opening.

The exhibition is now on display at MTU North Campus Library, where it will remain for approximately one month. The exhibition is open to the public during library opening hours.

About the Project:

The Science+Art Project is a collaboration between CABR at MTU Kerry and Tralee Art Group, supported by MTU Arts Office, that brings together art and science.

CABR provided Tralee Art Group artists with microscopic and other lab images and descriptions from cell biology research, including images of cells, cellular structures, and biological processes, and organised a lab tour where artists visited CABR facilities, spoke with researchers, and gained first-hand insights into the research.

The artists then transformed these scientific images into original paintings and visual art, creating a unique bridge between scientific research and creative expression.

Science+Art Project is supported by MTU Arts Office CREATE Le Chéile Arts Project Awards.
