CABR Researchers Attended ICP and Microwave Digestion Training

CABR researchers had the opportunity to attend microwave digestion and ICP training organised by CEM, Glass Expansions, Lennox and Agilent at the Radisson Blu Cork Hotel, Cork.

This training provided a comprehensive understanding of the scope, components, methods and applications of microwave digestion and ICP analysis.

The session covered the full workflow of elemental analysis, from optimising microwave digestion to selecting the best ICP sample introduction systems and improving ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy) and ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) performance.

Key areas covered:

  • Microwave digestion method development
  • Selecting suitable acids and reference materials
  • Optimising ICP-OES and ICP-MS performance
  • Latest developments in digestion and ICP technologies

Thank you to Vincent Gordon (CEM), Sarah Flynn (CEM), Maja Budanovic Williams (Glass Expansion) and Andrew Brotherhood (Agilent) for facilitating the training!

ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and the Microwave Digestion System are available at CABR for industry collaborations and were funded by Enterprise Ireland.

How does CABR use the above-mentioned equipment to benefit your business?

  • Heavy metal analysis in soil and water
  • Mineral analysis in food products
  • Quality control in food and pharmaceutical analysis
  • Quality assurance and elemental analysis of cosmetics and skin care products
  • Biomass screening
  • And more
